Short answer: Stop using water in the house, keep everyone away from the sewage, shut off power to the area if you can reach the breaker safely, and call. 4Sure’s line is answered live 24/7, and inside Spanish Fork city limits we guarantee arrival within 45 minutes, including at night. Do not try to clean sewage yourself or pour chemicals down the drain.
The first 10 minutes
- Stop all water use. No flushing, sinks, showers, dishwasher or laundry. Tell everyone in the house.
- Keep people and pets away. Sewage is Category 3 water and carries bacteria and viruses.
- Cut power to the area at the breaker if water is near outlets or cords and you can reach the panel without walking through water.
- Close doors to the affected rooms and turn off the HVAC if sewage reached floor registers.
- Call 4Sure at (385) 247-9387.
What not to do
- Don’t pour chemical drain openers into the line; they rarely reach a main-line blockage and make the water more hazardous.
- Don’t run a shop vac on sewage; it aerosolizes contaminants and contaminates the vacuum.
- Don’t walk through the water in socks or bare feet.
- Don’t throw out damaged items before photographing them for insurance.
While you wait
- Photograph the water level, the fixture it came from and any damage.
- Find your insurance policy and check for a sewer backup endorsement.
- Clear a path to the affected area and to the sewer cleanout if you know where it is.
- Move pets and anything valuable that is still dry away from the area.
What happens when we arrive
- We find and clear the blockage so the backup stops. 4Sure clears and repairs sewer lines ourselves.
- We document the damage with photos and moisture readings.
- We contain the area and begin Category 3 cleanup under IICRC S500: extraction, removal of contaminated porous materials and antimicrobial treatment.
- Drying equipment goes in, with daily moisture monitoring.
- We contact your insurance carrier about direct billing.
Common questions
Should I call at night or wait until morning?
Call right away. 4Sure’s line is answered live 24/7 by the crew, and sewage does more damage the longer it sits.
Can I flush the toilet to see if it’s fixed?
No. Every flush or drain use can push more sewage out of the lowest fixture. Wait until the line has been cleared.
Is it safe to sleep in the house?
Stay out of the affected area and keep doors to it closed. If sewage reached bedrooms, living areas or the HVAC system, sleep elsewhere until it is cleaned.
How fast can 4Sure get here at night?
Inside Spanish Fork city limits, arrival is guaranteed within 45 minutes, day or night. Elsewhere in Utah County, typically under 60 minutes.
